LAMB DEPOSITS

2027 Michigan USA Solar Sourced® Lamb Reservation
$250.00

Craig Farms Katahdins has been raising sheep for nearly 20 years and through our vegetation services division, Shepherd’s Garden, we serve as United Agrivoltaics’ Michigan lead farm partner. Through that partnership, our lamb carries the USA Solar Sourced® label. Our sheep are part of a growing agrivoltaic system in which livestock provide vegetation management on solar facilities while the land remains in active agricultural production. In late spring, our sheep travel to one of several solar facilities in the lakeshore region of Michigan-Indiana-Illinois and spend the next few months grazing to keep the weeds down. Due to the climate and lake effect factors, they come home for the winter and lambing rather than staying onsite year round.

What your reservation includes

Your reservation secures a half or whole lamb from our 2027 lamb crop. You can opt to have your lamb processed as a half or whole lamb for roasting or your own processing, or to receive approximately 35-40 pounds of packaged meat per lamb, although actual yield and individual cut weights will vary with finished animal size and processing selections.

A whole lamb provides a flexible mix of products such as:

  • Rib chops or racks

  • Loin chops

  • Boneless or bone-in leg

  • Shanks

  • Shoulder cuts

  • Ground lamb

  • Stew or kebab meat

  • Custom cuts

You do not need to choose your cuts today. A form will be emailed to you following your reservation to fill out at your convenience, with a reminder and/or confirmation sent approximately 30 days prior to processing in 2027. We will contact reservation holders before processing to confirm your cut and packaging options.

The deposit due to reserve your lamb is $250 per lamb, applied to the final invoice. Estimated final total is $600-$700 per whole lamb ($300-$350 per half) depending on final packaged weight and processor fees. If you have cultural or specific requirements for processing, please contact us.

Why reserve ahead?

Sheep production cannot be turned on overnight. Forward reservations help Shepherd’s Garden match future food demand with the flock growth, infrastructure, and processing capacity needed as our contracted solar grazing acreage expands.

Your reservation does more than secure locally raised lamb, it helps demonstrate that renewable energy land can simultaneously support Michigan food production, working farms, and agricultural prosperity.

Pickup/delivery, processing & timing

This is a forward reservation for the 2027 lamb crop, not currently frozen inventory. Processing dates and pickup/delivery timing will be communicated as the lambs approach market readiness. Solar grazed lambs will not be available until the second half of 2027. If you would like lamb earlier, we will have more limited quantities available for spring holidays; these lambs will not solar graze themselves however their mothers spend their summers solar grazing. Delivery costs are separate from lamb reservations; if you are unable to pick up from the processor or the farm, we can arrange delivery or shipping.

Large orders

If you wish to make a large order of whole lambs, you can use this form. If you wish to make a large order of particular cuts, please contact us to discuss case/cut specifications and availability.

Reservation Deposit & Cancellation Policy
Your reservation deposit is applied in full toward the final purchase price and secures production capacity from the selected lamb crop. Because Shepherd’s Garden plans flock production, processing capacity, and product allocation around advance reservations, the deposit is nonrefundable if the purchaser voluntarily cancels the reservation, except where otherwise required by law. If we are unable to fulfill the reservation, the purchaser may choose a full refund of amounts paid or, by mutual agreement, transfer the reservation to another available production period.
