Breeding Stock

Breeding stock are priced based on quality, conformation, genetics, 60-day and 120-day growth, and their NSIP data. Limited stud rams, ram lambs and ewe lambs are available annually. We can deliver purchased lambs to a variety of national sales through the summer and are happy to discuss delivery options to other locations. Potential buyers are welcome to contact us to discuss our flock and get on the wait list for individual breeding stock or starter flocks.

Feeder Lambs

Most of our feeder lambs are reserved and sold straight off the farm to homesteaders and farmers who wish to finish out the lambs for the dinner table. However as we expand we welcome discussion of wholesale purchasers. Please contact us if you are interested in feeder lambs.

WHY Katahdin Hair Sheep?

With so many breeds of sheep out there, why choose Katahdin Hair Sheep? They are hardy, adaptable, pleasant-tempered sheep! They require no shearing because as a hair sheep, they naturally shed their thick winter coats every spring (wild birds love them!). Because they have no wool, the meat has a naturally milder flavor than what you may commonly find at most mainstream grocery stores. And they come in many fun colors, painting a pretty picture in any pasture!

Science-BaSed Breeding

We had intended to enroll our flock in the National Sheep Improvement Program for several years, and finally pulled the trigger in 2021. It is a very exciting time for NSIP, and we are very happy to join the wave! NSIP is a way to take all of the data you have on your flock and turn it into estimated breeding values (EBVs), which can then be used to predict the future production potential for sheep. EBVs are proven to improve on-farm productivity and enhance breeding decisions (NSIP, EBVs).

You can find us enrolled in the National Sheep Improvement Program database under flock code 640243. We target certified stud rams when buying in outside genetics, and some of our foundation as well as our current top ewes qualify as NSIP-certified for maternal genetics, which means they rank in the top 50% of the whole USA Katahdin population for the USA Hair index and the top 30% for the number of lambs born and their maternal weaning weight. You can learn more on the website, or we are always happy to chat!

Our Flock

We have been breeding our registered flock since 2007, beginning with a core group brought north from Missouri. Slowly we have added to our numbers through keeping back the best ewe lambs every year and bringing in outcross rams with genetics to complement what we have developed.

Breeding Stock

We sell breeding stock ram lambs and ewe lambs both off the farm and attend national breed sales with a few lambs annually. Some years we will offer yearlings we kept back to watch grow, or older rams may become available after they’ve spent 2-3 breeding seasons with our ewes. On occasion, we have adult ewes available.

Commercial Lambs

We hold back enough lambs after weaning to grow out for our own freezer and for direct meat sales (whole or half lambs). The remainder may be available as feeder lambs for individuals seeking to finish their own. When possible, we hold back a few commercial lambs to keep our herding dogs sharp, and sell to herding enthusiasts to use in training dogs how to herd.
