Gin x Blue 2020

Born January 16, 2020

Gin is currently our only herding dog, as we lost our beloved Rebel in late 2019. Gin is great with the sheep, very keep to work whenever asked, whether we take her out with the sheep or ask her to work our few pigs or cattle. She is extraordinarily well-behaved with the poultry for a Border Collie, and while she loves to run in the backyard and is immediately ready to chase a ball the moment you so much as touch one, she has a wonderful off-switch and is happy to chill out in the home when it’s time to sleep or rest.

Puppies are whelped inside the house in a specially-made box in our spare room. We follow Puppy Culture protocols as much as possible with our litters, to give them the best start on life we can offer. Over approximately the first two weeks, they receive Early Neurological Stimulation, which helps aid their future mental development. As they begin to get more mobile, their access is expanded and they begin to explore the great big world outside and start on solid foods - a mixture of kibble, goat’s milk, and raw meats! Puppies are dewormed at appropriate intervals and receive vaccines at their first vet visit. Raised indoors, they are a little more limited on outdoors time in the winter, but every nice day this litter has had a chance to play in the safe, clean side yard just outside their room. From here they can see any livestock currently on the farm, including our myriad poultry. They shared their puppy room with the occasional bottle lambs as we lamb at this time of year! The puppies receive lots of socialization from friends, future puppy parents, and our family including toddler and baby. After temperament testing at 7 weeks, they are ready for home selections to be finalized. We expect this litter to have good, medium to high herding drive with good off switches like both of their parents. They will be suitable to active pet homes or working homes.

You can read and fill out our Puppy Application page if you are interested in applying for puppy from this or a future litter!

Gin is an almost 4 year old unregistered Border Collie. We use her mainly for herding sheep and occasionally ask her to work pigs or cattle. She LOVES to work, and loves to play with a good tennis ball just as much! She has been tested through Embark to clear for genetic diseases and discovered many generations back there was a Sheltie in her history, and many of her genetic relatives are ABCA Border Collies with strong herding experience.

Blue is a great companion and does a good job with herding cattle and sheep. He is cleared by parentage for genetic health for all common BC genetic diseases. His dam carried a copy of CEA, which means he could be a carrier, which does not affect the health of future puppies. He is registered and out of imported lines with a long history of stellar herding skill.
