Agrivoltaics Investment Opportunity

Invest with us to support renewable energy, agriculture, sustainable food - and be at the forefront of innovators developing agrivoltaic carbon credits!

  • Help us secure the land we will both farm and put into agrivoltaic solar facilities!

  • We have negotiated top land lease rates and agrivoltaic design considerations with a leading community and distributed generation developer ready to sign as soon as we have site control!

  • Complementing the owned land development, help us expand to contract graze additional solar facilities all around the region!

  • Growing the flock to carry out solar grazing means 1000s of lambs annually and we are in a prime location for access to Chicago and Detroit markets as well as have private meat buyers keen to contract for our scaled production.

  • Greater investment now to earn long-term royalties on our success! We’ve negotiated profit sharing triggers in our solar development deals, and you too can benefit!

  • Consistent profit potential reaches a stable seven figures with our scaling plans combining revenue streams from solar on our land, contract grazing other facilities, and livestock and other product revenue!

  • In addition to benefitting our farm and family, the nonprofit we work with is using our work to develop models and frameworks for farmers across the country to leverage agrivoltaics and solar to support land ownership and growth aspirations.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Agrivoltaics is taking off all around the country and all around the world! See for yourself at the inSPIRE Agrivoltaics map! Research shows solar shepherds win BIG with agrivoltaics and benefit everyone from the solar site to the community - and industry focus groups and presentations agree!

Listen to Angela Burke, the 2024 North American Champion of Agrivoltaics and one of our top supporters, as she discusses the huge opportunity offered by agrivoltaics!

As long-time shepherds, it made complete sense to pursue expansion to graze our flock on solar, even as our state has lagged behind on construction of solar and even more on adoption of solar grazing. We’ve partnered with leading organizations and been participating in impactful projects in the field while waiting for the infrastructure to be ready nearby - and it’s here! 2025 is the year!

But during the years of lead-up, we came to realize we had far more potential than simply growing to graze. In order to provide for our sheep in the winter when they cannot be on the solar sites due to weather, we knew we’d need more land for hay production. It’s tough for hay operations to compete with cash crop rents so we knew our best bet would be to purchase more land. One day the lightbulb flipped on - we could ALSO put smaller solar facilities on our own land, and leverage that to support our aspirations of greater land ownership.

Having interviewed and thoroughly assessed a range of solar developers, we have industry leading partner options ready to sign on the dotted line for a lucrative deal that will ensure the solar facility is designed thoughtfully for agricultural integration, based on our oversight and production plans. All we need is that all important deed in hand proving site control - and we have a shortlist of the properties best suited nearby all assessed and ready, we just need the right funder!

Matthew and Samantha Craig have been farming sheep, hay, and native plants for combined over 25 years, and we see a future in combining renewable energy and farming! Michigan has a clean energy mandate – 100% carbon-free by 2040 and solar has a big role to play! We’ve built up a broad network of industry, education, and institutional partners developing exciting projects to increase the body of knowledge and resources available surrounding agrivoltaics.

Craig Farms Katahdins began as a family sheep farm in 2007 and incorporated in 2018. Through the home farm we produce lambs for genetic seed stock and for fine dining experiences, as well as producing hay and propagating native seeds and plants for wholesale. Through our services branch, Shepherd’s Garden, we offer an array of ecological services and consulting packages.

Matthew holds a Masters in Agriculture- Integrated Resource Management and is broadly experienced in many types of livestock production as well as grazing/forage planning, management, and harvest. Matthew manages multiple farms, works as a native plant and seed specialist in southwest Michigan, and serves as a subject matter expert for United Agrivoltaics North America, supporting pollinator and grazing integration on commercial and utility scale solar energy facilities.

Samantha holds a Masters in Applied Animal Behavior and Animal Welfare and serves as the Executive Director for the United Agrivoltaics Heartland Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing agrivoltaics as a means to farm viability for next generation farmers, while helping solve complex land access and marketing challenges.
